Mario Marzi is a saxophone graduate of the Conservatorio Rossini in Pesaro, where he studied under Federico Mondelci. He went on to further studies at the Conservatoire in Bordeaux with Jean-Marie Londeix; on graduating he was awarded the prestigious Prix du Premier Ministre and the Médaille d’Or à l’Unanimité.

Mario Marzi has won nine national and four international competitions. He has played with major symphony orchestras both in Italy – the Orchestra Sinfonica RAI di Torino, the Accademia nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and in the Arena di Verona, the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, and the Teatro alla Fenice di Venezia – and abroad (including the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and the Caracas Symphony Orchestra). He has worked with the Teatro alla Scala and the Filarmonica della Scala, under many conductors, for more than twenty years.

Mario Marzi frequently performs with Riccardo Muti and is a regular guest of Zubin Mehta’s Orchestra Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. He has appeared at countless festivals and concerts all over the world (in Italy, Salzburg, Athens, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Beijing, Brussels, Moscow, Barcelona, and elsewhere).

He takes a great interest in the 20thcentury repertoire; indeed, some key works of the contemporary repertoire were dedicated to him. He has made many recordings, including recordings as a soloist of the great concertos for saxophone and orchestra with the Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hans-Jörg Schellemberger.

Mario Marzi currently teaches at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan. He also gives many classes for complementary courses and shares his knowledge at master classes in the four corners of the world (in Porto, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Beijing, Frankfurt, Denver, and elsewhere).

His book, Il Saxofono, was published by Zecchini.

Il ne compte plus les festivals et autres concerts durant lesquels il s’est produit un peu partout sur la planète (Italie, Salzbourg, Athènes, New-York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Pékin, Bruxelles, Moscou, Barcelone,...).

Il s’est fortement intéressé au répertoire du 20e siècle. Quelques-unes des oeuvres les plus significatives du répertoire contemporain lui furent dédicacées. Sa discographie est importante. Il a notamment enregistré, comme soliste, les plus grands concertos pour saxophone et orchestre avec le Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra dirigé par Hans-Jörg Schellemberger.

Mario Marzi enseigne actuellement au Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi de Milan. Il donne aussi de nombreux
cours pour des cursus complémentaires et dispense son savoir durant des master classes aux quatre coins du monde (Porto, Amsterdam, Lisbonne, Pékin, Francfort et Denver).

Il a également publié un livre, Il Saxofono, aux Editions Zecchini.
