Belgique – 1968

Geert Callaert est diplômé du Lemmensinstituut de Louvain où il a remporté le Prix Lemmens-Tinel et suivi les cours de piano (classe de Jan Vermeulen), mais aussi de musique de chambre, d’analyse musicale supérieure, d’accompagnement au clavier, de direction d’orchestre et de composition et écriture musicale. Il a également fréquenté l’Institut Orpheus de Gand où il a développé un projet sur les musiques de Stockhausen, Xenakis et Wuorinen.

Geert Callaert est actif en tant que pianiste et compositeur en Belgique et à l’étranger, de même qu’en qualité de Chef d’Orchestre de l’Academy for New Music Lemmensinstituut, ensemble de musique contemporaine.

En 2006, il écrit, en collaboration avec Carlo Willems, Time of my Life (pour percussions et piano). Durant l’année 2009, il sort son premier Concerto (pour piano et petit ensemble), ainsi que Fantômas (pour piano et bande magnétique). Cette musique sert de support sonore au DVD Avant-Garde: Surréalisme et Expérimentation dans le Cinéma Belge (coproduction de l’Ensemble HERMES, de Transparant, de la Cinémathèque Royale de Belgique et du Centre de Recherches et de Formation Musicales de Wallonie).

Il crée à Anvers, en 2009, Piece (Peace) for Enlightenment (pour piano et bande magnétique). Cette année-là, il crée également son second Concerto (pour piano, percussions et bande magnétique) et Sonate (pour violon et piano). Il a aussi composé: Suite Amores (pour piano et euphonium), Sonate n°1 (pour tuba et piano). Il a enregistré plusieurs CD's présentant un répertoire diversifié.

Il est en outre le co-fondateur de l’Orchestre de Chambre Belge et de l’Ensemble HERMES.

Depuis 1990, il est Pianiste-Accompagnateur du Lemmensinstituut de Louvain. Il y est aussi Professeur de Piano et de Musique de Chambre spécialisé dans le répertoire musical contemporain. C’est lui qui a donné l’impulsion à la création d’un Master Complémentaire en Musique Contemporaine. Ce dernier comprend désormais toutes les disciplines instrumentales (microtonalité, rythmique avancée,…).

Geert Callaert studeerde af aan het Lemmensinstituut in Leuven met de Prijs Lemmens-Tinel, en volgde er piano (klas van Jan Vermeulen), kamermuziek, hogere muziekanalyse, klavierbegeleiding, orkestdirectie, compositie en muziekschriftuur. Hij studeerde ook aan het Orpheusinstituut in Gent, waar hij een aan een project werkte over de muziek van Stockhausen, Xenakis en Wuorinen.

Geert Callaert is actief als pianist en als componist in België en in het buitenland, en als dirigent van de Academy for New Music Lemmensinstituut, een ensemble voor hedendaagse muziek.

In 2006 schreef hij samen met Carlo Willems Time of my Life (voor slagwerk en piano). In 2009 verschijnt zijn eerste ConcertoFantômas (voor piano en tape). Deze muziek dient als achtergrond bij de DVD Avant-garde: Surrealisme en experiment in de Belgische Cinema (een gezamenlijke productie van het HERMESensemble, muziektheater Transparant, het Belgisch Filmarchief en het Centre de Recherches et de Formation Musicales de Wallonie). In 2009 creëert hij in Antwerpen Piece (Peace) for Enlightenment (voor piano en tape). In hetzelfde jaar brengt hij ook de creatie van zijn tweede Concerto (voor piano, slagwerk en tape) en van Sonate (voor viool en piano). Andere werken van hem zijn: Suite Amores (voor piano en euphonium), Sonate n°1 (voor tuba en piano). Hij nam verschillende cd’s op met een gevarieerd repertoire.

Daarnaast is hij medeoprichter van de Belgische Kamerfilharmonie en van het HERMESensemble.

Sinds 1990 is hij pianist-begeleider aan het Lemmensinstituut in Leuven. Hij is er ook docent piano en kamermuziek, gespecialiseerd in het hedendaags repertoire. Onder zijn impuls werd daar de Master na Masteropleiding hedendaagse muziek opgericht. Deze omvat nu alle instrumentale disciplines (microtonaliteit, geavanceerde ritmiek, …).

 

Belgique – 1968

Geert Callaert is a graduate of the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven, where he won the Lemmens-Tinel Prize and followed piano courses (in Jan Vermeulen's class) as well as studying chamber music, higher musical analysis, keyboard accompaniment, orchestral conducting, and composition and music writing. He also attended the Orpheus Institute in Ghent, where he undertook a project on the music of Stockhausen, Xenakis, and Wuorinen.

Geert Callaert is active as a pianist and composer both in Belgium and abroad and is the conductor of the Academy for New Music Lemmensinstituut, a contemporary-music ensemble.

In 2006, in collaboration with Carlo Willems, he wrote Time of My Life (for percussion and piano). In 2009 he produced his first concerto (for piano and small ensemble), as well as Fantômas (for piano and tape). This music was used on the soundtrack of the DVD Avant-Garde: Surrealism and Experiment in Belgian Cinema (a co-production by the HERMES Ensemble, Transparant, the Royal Belgian Film Archive, and the Centre de Recherches et de Formation Musicales de Wallonie).

He premiered Piece (Peace) for Enlightenment (for piano and tape) in Antwerp in 2009. That same year, he also premiered his second concerto (for piano, percussion, and tape), and a sonata for violin and piano. Other compositions include Suite Amores (for piano and euphonium) and Sonate N°1 for tuba and piano. He has recorded a number of CDs with a very varied repertoire.

He is also co-founder of the Chamber Orchestra of Belgium and of the HERMES Ensemble.

Since 1990 he has been a Pianist-Accompanist at the Lemmensinstituut in Leuven, where he is also Professor of Piano and of Chamber Music, specialising in the contemporary repertoire. He was the driving force behind the establishment of a complementary master's degree in Contemporary Music, which now includes all instrumental disciplines (microtonality, advanced rhythm, etc.)
