Kyle Horch studied the saxophone in Chicago at Northwestern University (Evanston, IIIinois). He obtained a Bachelor’s in 1986 and a Master’s in 1988 in the class given by Frederick Hemke. Awarded a scholarship by BP North America, he attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he studied under Stephen Trier and obtained a diploma in Advanced Solo Studies.

Both as a student and as a teacher, he has won many prizes around the world, in, for example, the Coleman Chamber Music Competition (Los Angeles), the Music Teachers’ National Association/Wurlitzer Young Artist Competition (Detroit), the Park Lane Group Young Artists/20th Century Music Platform in London, and the Jules de Vries International Competition in Sweden.

He has performed on many occasions, as a soloist or as a member of a chamber orchestra, in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, in the Purcell Room, and during British or World Saxophone Congresses. He has made a number of recordings; the most recent of these, Flotilla, concentrates on chamber music, with unusual combinations of saxophones and keyboards. He has also been an invited guest of other musicians and composers: for example, he played John Carmichael’s Aria and Finale on the CD Sea Changes and has also collaborated on two CDs with the composer Ian Stewart.

Apart from those specific projects, he has pursued an active career as a musician, performing as a soloist, recording CDs, appearing on radio programmes, and playing with renowned chamber and symphony orchestras.

Kyle Horch teaches at the Royal College of Music in London and has given master classes in Europe (in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, and Switzerland), the USA, and Australia.
