A graduate of the Royal Brussels Conservatory, Freddy Vanattenhoven won 1st Prize for Clarinet, Diplômes Supérieurs in Chamber Music and Saxophone (in the class of François Daneels), and Certificats in Transposition and in Conducting Brass and Wind Ensembles.


He was a founder member of the Quatuor de Saxophones de Bruxelles (Brussels Saxophone Quartet), with which he has toured the world (including the USA, Australia, Indonesia, India, Thailand, and Taiwan). He has taken part in several World Saxophone Congresses (Bordeaux, London, Chicago, Nuremberg, Washington, Montreal, and Ljubljana).


He has been in charge of the wind band in Zichem since 1972 and of its counterpart in Hamont since 1996. In 1996 Freddy Vanattenhoven toured Ecuador as a soloist with the country’s National Orchestra. In 1997 he premiered Trilogie by Willy Bauweraerts, a prize-winning work in the Concours de Composition pour Saxophone
Alto et Piano organised by Sabam’s Promotion Artistique Belge and the International Adolphe Sax Association, which was the compulsory work in the semi-final of the 2nd Adolphe Sax International Competition.


An active member of the Musical Committee of the International Adolphe Sax Association, he has served as a member of the jury of the Competition for Young Saxophonists (Dinant – 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2009) and was a member of the Arbitration Committee of the 2nd Adolphe Sax International Competition (Dinant – 1998). He is currently Vice-President of the Adolphe Sax International Competition (Dinant – 2002, 2006, and 2010).


He was Professor of Saxophone at the Royal Antwerp Conservatory from 1985 to 2006 and Director of the Music Academy of Tessenderlo from 1987 to 2006.

Diplômé du Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, Freddy Vanattenhoven a obtenu le Premier Prix de Clarinette, les Diplômes Supérieurs de Musique de Chambre et de Saxophone (classe de François Daneels), ainsi que les
Certificats de Transposition et de Direction de Fanfares et Harmonies.


Il est membre fondateur du Quatuor de Saxophones de Bruxelles avec lequel il a effectué des tournées à travers le monde (USA, Australie, Indonésie, Inde, Thaïlande, Taïwan). Il a participé à différents Congrès
Mondiaux de Saxophone (Bordeaux, Londres, Chicago, Nuremberg, Washington, Montréal et Ljubljana).


Il est Chef des Harmonies Royales de Zichem depuis 1972 et de Hamont depuis 1996. En 1996, Freddy Vanattenhoven a effectué une tournée en Equateur comme soliste avec l’Orchestre National de ce pays.


En 1997, il a créé Trilogie de Willy Bauweraerts, oeuvre lauréate du Concours de Composition pour Saxophone Alto et Piano organisé par la Promotion Artistique Belge de la Sabam et l’Association Internationale Adolphe Sax, imposé de la demi-finale au 2e Concours International Adolphe Sax.


Membre actif du Comité Musical de l’Association Internationale Adolphe Sax, il a été Membre du Jury du Concours pour Jeunes Saxophonistes (Dinant – 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 et 2009) et Membre
du Comité d’Arbitrage du 2e Concours International Adolphe Sax (Dinant – 1998). Il assure la Vice- Présidence des Concours Internationaux Adolphe Sax (Dinant – 2002, 2006 et 2010).


Il a, en outre, été Professeur de Saxophone au Conservatoire Royal d’Anvers, de 1985 à 2006, et Directeur de l’Académie de Musique de Tessenderlo, de 1987 à 2006.
